For nearly sixty years, Heidi Redd has run the Indian Creek Cattle Company and held the Bureau of Land Management grazing leases adjacent to the Ranch. Since she began ranching the land in the mid-1960s, Heidi has been conservation minded. In 1997, the Nature Conservancy acquired Dugout Ranch saving it from potential development and furthering the conservation of the land. Heidi still maintains the cattle operations, and runs fewer cattle than the permit allows, maintains native grasses, and restores/maintains the riparian corridor of Indian Creek. Heidi and The Nature Conservancy own the private property of Dugout Ranch and control access to some of the best crack climbing in the world. Following these few basic guidelines helps maintain access to some of Indian Creek’s best crags:
CONTROL YOUR PETS
Heidi has a right to graze cows in Indian Creek. If you see cattle or horses approaching your camp or climb, TIE UP YOUR DOG!

Be respectful of Heidi and her cowboys if you see them. Being friendly to local landowners that endure a transient and large climbing population is the right thing to do.
CLIMB ELSEWHERE
Please do not climb at Paragon Prow, New Wall and New Wave Wall. These routes in particular infringe on the privacy of the Ranch, and access is through private land.
LEAVE NO TRACE
Leaving the land in as good or better shape than we found it shows respect for the land, local landowners, and other visitors.
